Premiere: Thandi Draai releases the INGOZI EP, an Afro-tech project, through Bae Electronica

Thandi Draai is a South African artist that was born and raised in Margate, Kwa-Zulu Natal. She carries a multitude of skills in her musical arsenal, such as production, songwriting, DJing and performance in the form of singing. Having moved to South Africa’s city of gold shortly after completing high school in 2010, she quickly made her presence felt in the city’s vibrant entertainment scene by connecting with the right people which helped propel her career further. As much as her networking skills and business acumen assisted her in getting her name exposed to the industry, her talent has been, without a doubt, her greatest treasure.

She is back after a four year production hiatus with the release of a three track EP. She has been active in the South African music industry collaborating with great artists such as Kimosabe, Bokkie ULT and Vanco just to name a few and also featuring on a few compilation projects, and this has her presence and impact in the music space felt, appreciated and praised.

Her new EP, titled INGOZI, sees her step in her own and in a highly male-dominated genre, Afro House, and the project serves as a perfect springboard for starting important conversations such as the limited visibility of women in the music industry in South Africa. The EP in its composition lives in Afro House as the umbrella genre, but is more appropriately described as an Afro-tech project as it pulls stylistic elements from tech house and gqom, making it a rather unique body of work. Incoming Danger is the lead single of the project and it drives the purpose EP perfectly; which is characterized by present drum patterns, energetic stabs and hard-hitting sound design.

The INGOZI EP is poised to be a game changer, a culture shifter and a pioneering offering as it is the first afro tech project to be self-written and self-produced by a black South African woman.

The EP is currently available for purchase and streaming on Traxsource. It will be available on all major digital stores on the 10th of October.
